I got the idea to do Mystery Readers from Beth Newingham's website.

Each Friday we have a different mystery reader come to our classroom and read a picture book to the class during our read aloud time. The readers are moms, dads, brothers or sisters, aunts or uncles, grandparents, or neighbors. Anyone that's important to the life of a child in my class is welcome to come and read. The readers sign up to read and then give me five clues to share with the class. By Friday, the class cannot wait to see who the reader will be!

17th Francis's mom came to read and teach us about New Zealand. Each child was then able to choose a pencil or a special bookmark that she made!

24th Jarrod's grandmother came to read Chicken Chuck to the class! She also brought each child a blue feather to keep (it went with the story)!

21st Lauren's mom came and read Meteor! by Patricia Polacco to the class! She also made each child a beautiful bookmark to go with the book!
28th Gulbike's mom came and read The Ghost of Goose Island to the class. She also started an Amelia Bedelia book!
4th Matthew's mom came and read Mr. Peabody's Apples by Madonna. She then gave everyone an apple and a baseball filled with chocolate!

11th Tristan's mom came and read Squids Will Be Squids and the class absolutely loved the book! She also brought frog pencils and super cute frog erasers for everyone!
18th Caitlin's mom came to read Big World, Small World and she taught us about the rainforests!
25th Lindsay's mom came in with Bella's Mystery Deck-- she read the cards and the kids had to figure out "Who Done It?" Then everyone was surprised with some Tootsie Roll pops!

9th AJ's mom came and read two books about money. The first was called "The Three Cups" and the second was "Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday." AJ's mom then donated the Alexander book to the class library and gave each child $1 (it tied in with the story) and encouraged them to save some, spend some, and donate some to charity!!

16th Cooper's mom came in and read the first chapter of the book Scat. The kids loved it! Then they were able to choose star sunglasses (to go with Hollywood in the book) or funny nose glasses (to go with the mystery part of the book).
13th Tristan's grandma came and read a few stories from the book Jack Tales by Richard Chase. The kids absolutely LOVED how she read and the stories!
4th Tristan's dad came with his friend from Germany, and he read the story of the Nutcracker and told the class about the German tradition of St. Nicholas Day. Then they had the kids put their shoes on their desks and they passed out candy on their shoes!
8th Mollie's Grandmother came to read Kiana's Iditarod to the class.

Each child got a map to follow where Kiana was on her journey to the finish line in Nome!

5th Maia's mom came and read two books to us! She read Zen Shorts and An Undone Fairy Tale.

Each child was given a fortune cookie that they ate during afternoon snack!
